What is our face (life) reflecting? by Therese Irizarry
“It would take a volume in itself to fully expound the virtues and vicissitudes of Moses the historian, orator, leader, statesman, legislator and patriot. His greatest honor, however, was the privilege of being known as “the friend of God.” What holy intimacy existed between God and this prophet so supernaturally guided and aided in his life and labors!” (Lockyer; chapter about Moses) Moses is a fascinating person with such a multilayered skill set (above). One day I would love to do a close study of Moses growing up in Egypt; learn about his culture, his daily life in the palace, and what he studied. As Lockyer states above, Moses was best known for his close relationship with God, his friendship with God. Moses spent time with God on the mountain and reentered the camp with his face radiant and shining, so much so that it brought fear to the people. Does our face radiate the Glory of God and time spent with Him? When we spend time with others we slowly are influenced by them and slowly imitate them, but not on purpose; it is a natural occurrence out of quantity of time spent with them. The same is true when we spend time with God. We are influenced by His love, His grace, His joy, and all the other attributes that make-up our God. We will slowly change, without realizing it, and will slowly “radiate” Him on our face and in our lives. Moses came down from the mountaintop with his face radiating, shining so much that it made people fearful. They did not look at him and want to make him a god because they knew, they really knew, that the shining was coming from the glory of God. I believe the fear that they felt was conviction of the Holiness of God. This shining pointed to God, not to Moses. When we spend time with God our lives, our faces, our words, and our attitudes point to God, not to ourselves. May we spend time with Him as we walk, as we work, as we hold our children, as we hold our spouse’s hand, and as we earnestly pray for others. May our faces radiate peace and joy. May our words radiate sweetness and life. May our service to others radiate love. May the work of our hands radiate the One who created us and point to His beautiful creativity. God bless you on your journey. Prayer: Dear God, it is so amazing that we are able to spend time with You, sitting with You, walking with You, talking to You, laughing with You. You are the God of the universe but You are also our Friend. May we be drawn to You like a moth to the flame, fall in love with You and radiate Your life, peace, joy, and love to those around us. May they be drawn to You because of what we radiate from our time spent with You. Amen Exodus 34:29-30 NLT When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the LORD. [30] So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him. CSB Tony Evans Study Bible 34:28-35 When Moses finally descended the mountain, he did not realize that the skin of his face shone as a result of his speaking with the Lord (34:29). When Moses spent extended, uninterrupted time in God’s presence, he began to glow. Recently I was reminded of taking advantage of the open doors the Lord provides us with to share about His grace and love. The last three taxi drivers I rode with in Havana not only listened attentively to the message of salvation but were open to pray with me in the taxi and accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. One of these taxi drivers is Eddy. He listened to myself and my good friend Coach Farrell who was with me in the taxi. After we shared about God's grace with Eddy he let us know that his wife had contracted "HIV" through a blood transfusion during a complication while having a c-section. As a result their new born baby was infected as well and, because they had no idea of what had taken place until some time later, Eddy was also infected. When he shared this with us, he immediately said, "I need God to do a miracle in my baby daughter's life". Eddy accepted Christ with us that evening and the next evening as our missions team arrived at our lodging location, there was Eddy, his wife, and baby daughter waiting for us!! They wanted to accept Christ as a family!! Please pray for Eddy and his family. We put him in contact with a pastor who was healed from HIV and we are believing for great things in his life. Can't wait for my next taxi ride! |
